Infant car seat – Chicco Keyfit 30 is a winner

We chose to go with the Chicco Keyfit 30 for our baby.  Overall it was great and I would recommend it.  It’s rated the highest by Consumer Reports for safety and has many many many positive reviews online.  Plus, the ease of being able to carry a sleeping infant around town without taking him out of the seat is great.  (I realize you can do this with all infant car seats, not just this one.)  The key for us was finding a car seat that would work with the stroller we wanted.

We got an extra base so it could go in both of our cars but we did not get the travel system. We did buy the infant car seat adapter for our Bob stroller.  Besides the high safety ratings, this was probably the other primary reason behind our choice of this particular car seat.

Pros: Easy to install without latch, works with the Bob infant car seat adapter (more on this later), comfortable (I’d assume, considering how much time he spent sleeping in it), fits fine in our Toyota Camry (although you can’t put the seat quite all the way back), not too heavy

Cons:  Takes up almost your entire shopping cart (see above – but this may in fact be a good thing if you’re trying to cut down on your expenses),  I haven’t seen an adapter for the Bob double stroller (yet), probably would not work well in a small car (does not fit in a 2 door Honda Civic), our child outgrew the seat around the time he was 8 or 9 months (not be weight, but by height – his head was 1 inch from the top) so depending on how your child is built it may not last to 30 inches/30 pounds.  I also cannot imagine carrying a 30 pound kid in a 10 pound car seat…

I found this website to be a good resource for car seats in general: http://carseatblog.com/carseatblogcoms-recommended-car-seats/

Hello

Hi there. I have a kid. He’s one.

Before becoming a parent, I knew that kids required somewhat of an investment in “kid stuff.” While pregnant, I realized that the world of “kid stuff” can be quite overwhelming. (Maybe partially because of the hormones.) In the past year (plus) I have researched and shopped for a lot of “kid stuff” and while I’m sure I’m not an expert, I’m hopeful that my efforts can help other busy and stressed moms. Because I’ve put a lot of work into this. Just ask my husband and the UPS guy.
